White Paper doll to Raid DPS multiplier

Before the latest patch which nerfed Elixirs, it seemed to me that a multiplier of 1.5 to 1.6 from white paper doll DPS to raid DPS was a good estimate.

Does it seem about the same now? I wonder if it varies by spec too? If you have any data on this, please post it.

The paper doll DPS number is useless. It has very little relation to overall Hunter DPS.

Pre- or Post- armor? I would think the multiplier would be at least 2 if it's pre-armor and you're counting the pet. Considering I've seen screenshots and logs of hunters breaching 1k at times, I'd say 3x is even possible.

I could not disagree more.

It is the most important figure on your character sheet. I use it as the basis of calculation and comparison for all my damage and gear.

And, no, of course it does not directly translate into your realized raid DPS. But it is the single most important figure in calculating your damage potential. And the next most important statistic is your crit %.

Post-Armor. The multiplier as you are just sitting around with all of your gear on and no buffs. No potions, no food, no aspect of the hawk, no trueshot aura, etc... But yes to all of your gear.

I am not counting pets in that factor.

By itself the white paper doll number is not a large part of hunter DPS. I understand that crit rating, shot rotation, mana management and quite a lot of other things matter too. However, my experience has been that the ratio of white paper doll DPS does have a relation to overall hunter DPS.

I would say the paper doll is useless for anything other than determining which items might be better for you, and even then you have to take it with a grain of salt.

I did 650 DPS on gruul last week (which I hear is kinda on the low end of what you need everyone doing on that fight). My paper doll is at half that. Other fights my DPS sits in different places because of how they work, so there really is no baseline for where my total DPS is going to be, unless we're in the perfect world where we never have to stop DPS.

What I had in mind was the DPS done during a typical "tank and spank" boss fight, where the hunter is shooting at a single target for a long period of time.

I understand that combat varies from encounter to encounter. Back in the day, I never used Vaelestraz as a benchmark. The Broodlord was a better gauge. Not every fight was like that, but it gave me a general rule of thumb.

These responses are very interesting keep them coming. I would love to see some stats.

part of that problem is what debuffs are used, what group you get put in, what specs people take, how much defense your target has, etc...

Theres just no way IMO to really get a clear image of what your DPS will be in relation to your paper doll. The only thing its good for is a baseline of what gear is better for you.

I would make an offhand guess that you could take your paperdoll DPS and multiply it by anywhere between 2 and 3 depending on weapon speed and how close you can get to the perfect weaving of Steady Shots and Auto Shots. I can't give you the math on it, as I haven't the slightest clue where to start. I just have my own observations and gut for that one. 8)
