Marked for Death breaks Glyph of Steady Shot
I couldn't find a thread discussing this already, so forgive me if I've missed something.
I am currently using an MM spec for PVE and shortly after getting hold of the Glyph of Steady Shot I was disappointed to note that for some reason it wasn't working as expected for me. On a whim, I respecced 51/20 BM and found the glyph to work, so something about the MM talents was causing it to fail. A lot more testing was needed, so here is what I tried and the results I had, these should be reproducible in-game with the same setup I used. Using a vendor-bought Fine Light Crossbow (fixed damage range) and shooting the Ironforge heroic target dummy with no other gear on. For each test, I tried each time with/without hunter's mark on the target, and later in the tree with/without TSA as well. Test #1 - zero talent points spent No serpent sting: steady shot damage is fixed between shots. With serpent sting: steady shot damage increases ~10% Test #2 - talented down to 3/3 Improved Stings (linky) No serpent sting: steady shot damage is fixed between shots. With serpent sting: steady shot damage increases ~10% Test #3 - talented down to just below Marked for Death (linky) No serpent sting: steady shot damage is fixed between shots. With serpent sting: steady shot damage increases ~10% Test #4 - talented down to just below Chimera Shot (linky) No serpent sting: steady shot damage is fixed between shots. With serpent sting: steady shot damage does not increase! Test #5 - talented up to full 7/57/7 spec again (linky) No serpent sting: steady shot damage is fixed between shots. With serpent sting: steady shot damage does not increase! My conclusion is then that something about the MM talent Marked for Death causes the glyph effect to stop working. I tested a lot of other situations that I've omitted for brevity, but the only other notable conclusion was that when the glyph is working, its effect does appear to stack with the old 4pc T6 set bonus. Can anybody reproduce my results confirm what I am seeing? Is the talent + glyph combination indeed bugged? If so then this is a fairly substantial nerf in damage for Marksmen hunters, and I hope it is indeed a bug that can be fixed by Blizzard. |

Excellent testing method Korn, I know that it was previously suspected that Imp stings caused issue with the Steady shot glyph but I have seen nothing reguarding Marked for Death.
You may want to post your findings on the official boards if there is not allready a topic concerning it. Even without any other independant testing Blizzard should be more capable of determining if there is an issue. I don't even believe my server has the Steady shot glyph yet, so I'm not going to be able to test this myself. |

Thanks for sharing us your information and findings Korn - I believe I saw some similar things with regards to the Marked for Death talent bugging Glyph of Steady Shot when Iwent through some DPS testing with a fellow BM Hunter a few days ago.
One thing I'd like to point out is that Glyph of Serpent Sting and different types of ammunation do not bug Glyph of Steady Shot whatsoever; I became skeptic that either Marked for Death or Improved Stings was causing the bug and so I kinda went over the top with the testing. Let's just hope the Mr Marked for Death gets fixed in the next upcoming patch. |
